Technical Information.
Romfil Flotation Systems are now available in modules of 5, 10, 20 and 30,000Lph. Details of the Flotation process were given in a previous emailer, and are available on request.
Normal techniques of cold settling the juice ex the press for 2-3 days, produces some 25% of the tank volume as settled lees, which are then filtered by an RDV filter. With the RFS, the lees fraction, (as foam on top of the clear juice,) is 3-4% of the juice volume. Thus the volume of feed to the RDV is greatly reduced.

Flotation Benefits.
1. A big saving in RDV time, with only a fraction of the juice
volume to be filtered.
2. A big saving in DE purchase and dumping costs.
3. Reduces processing time, because the flotation process
can begin as soon as the juice is pectin -ve, normally
1-2 hours after pressing.
4. Less juice waste. The recovered juice from filtration of
the foam is good quality, allowing it to be recovered and
fermented.
5. Less energy required, because the juice does not have
to be cold settled.
6. Can add increased rates of gelatine over the amount
needed for flotation (0.1%) to get a fining effect.
Several Flotation units have been supplied with repeat orders confirming the claims of this efficient method of juice clarification. |
